Sight Word Scarecrow

We made a scarecrow from our sight words.
We had to look at the sight word wall and pick at least 2 sight words.
Next, we wrote them down on scrap paper.
We had to read them to Mrs. Martin.
Crumble up our paper and stuff them into his shirt and pants.
When we stuffed him all up, we added a face.
We named him, Stan the Sight Word Scarecrow Man!

Pumpkins from panty hose?

We make the cutest pumpkins from knee high panty hose.  Two pairs tied together.  Check out below to see how they are done.
First we add LOTS of stuffing to each of the legs.
It takes awhile but we sure have fun doing it.

Then we have to paint the pumpkin.  It takes LOTS of orange paint.

Then we paint the stem green.
And lastly, we add the leaf and viney twirl.

The final product.  Too cute!

Dry Ice Science Experiements

Our science experiment was too cool this week.  I took lots of pictures but Mr. Betz, our media specialist, taped it and make an awesome video.  Take a look!

Halloween Fun

On Halloween, Mrs. Jones, aka Pirate Penelope, told spooky stories and danced to fun songs like Ghostbusters.  We loved all the decorations.  I tried to take pictures in the dark, but they just didn't come out as good.  We waited until the end and had our picture taken with Pirate Penelope.  We also had fun with pumpkins. We did lots of math activities with our pumpkins that our families sent in. Below are a few of the pumpkin activities.

Pirate Penelope with her scurvy crew.

Doing the Monster Mash, it's a graveyard smash!
Pirate Penelope told several spooky stories.

We estimated how much string would fit around our pumpkin and then checked our estimations.
We learned the new term, circumference.
We also estimated if our pumpkin weighed more than a bag of sugar or less.
Then we weighed our pumpkin.
Next we graphed what kind of face we wanted on our Jack-o-lantern.
Then, we estimated how many seeds we thought would be in our pumpkin.
Our next task was to out all those seeds.  We put them in groups of 10.
We decided that would make it easier to count.
And finally, we have our Jack-o-lantern.
We also made Halloween patterns with foam Halloween shapes.
We also did math activities with DEM BONES but I forgot to take pictures.
We had lots of fun on Halloween.  Thanks to the parents that sent in candy and treats for our goody bags.
The snacks were good too.  Thanks for the special snacks.

Silly Scarecrows

We have been learning about pumpkins, spiders, and scarecrows over the past week.  For our Funky Food activity we made Silly Scarecrows.  They are too cute.

Mrs. Martin's silly scarecrow.
She shows us step by step how to do it and then we have to go back to our seats
and remember how to make them.

Bubble Burst

This week our science experiment was Bubble Burst.  There have been several experiments that include chemical reactions.  The Happy Hounds and the Spunky Monkeys remembered that term and what happens.  They predicted that the baking soda and water was going to make a gas and the bag would explode.

Mrs. Hood adds the baking soda packet, shakes it up, drops the bag, and runs!

The gas makes the bag expand.
Until it can't take it any longer and bursts.
Chemical reactions are cool!

Wishing Wands

We made Wishing Wands for our Funky Food this week.  It is an easy but one of my favorite food activities.  We all had to make a wish before we could eat them.  Wwwwishying wwwwands....
