Dry Ice Science Experiements

Our science experiment was too cool this week.  I took lots of pictures but Mr. Betz, our media specialist, taped it and make an awesome video.  Take a look!

Go With The Flow

Our science experiment this week was about transportation.  Now, I know you are wondering what does a blue bottle of water have to do with transportation?  We discussed how scientists have to study the motion of water and air to help make an airplane or ship.  As the Spunky Moneys moved the solution in the bottles, they observed how water (and air) moves.  They were amazed!
Maddie is amazes with the swirls.  Kevin is checking out his too.

Colorful Fireworks!

We have  been working with our colors.  Our science experiment for this week was Color Explosion!  The Spunky Monkeys renamed it Fireworks because it looked like the colorful sky on 4th of July.
Ask your Spunky Monkey how/why this experiment works.  Let me know what they say!

First we need whole milk in the dish.

Next we add food coloring but just a dot of each color.

Next we use a clean Q-tip and put it in the milk close to the color.
We found out nothing happens.  So then, we added a drop of Dawn
dish detergent and touched it to the milk.  That's when the fireworks began!

Now it is our turn to try it out.

Gg is for Geyser

We had to yell g...g...g...g...

Listening to the air trying to escape.

Adding the Mentos.

Everyone is waiting and yelling g...g...g...

WOW! That is AWESOME!

Color Mixing

We are talking about different colors each week. For our science experiment we mixed colors.
But since Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Wilbanks like to eat, we used cool whip to explore with.

Nicole and Xander just finished combining yellow and red to see what color it makes...

ORANGE.

Maria is tasting orange too.
Maddie and Madison think orange tastes yummy.
Tinija is eating purple.

She combined red and blue to make it.

April enjoys color mixing too.
Jaxon has a huge bite of purple.
Ruel is mixing his blue and red together.
Kevin, Maria, Jaxon, and Zuleydi mixing red and blue together.
Robert, Nicole, Xander, and Kaitlin discovering purple.
Nathaniel mixing it all together.

What a delicious way to explore mixing colors.

Our First Science Experiment

On Fridays, we have a lot of academic fun.
One fun activity is the science experiment.
Our first one was the Incredible Can Crusher...that's me.

We are waiting for the little bit of water to heat up.
(This part is kinda boring)

Next we are listening for the water to bubble.

Then, I carefully turn the can upside down and place it in the water.

Then, we have a perfectly crushed can.

Pretty cool!

I was able to amaze the Spunky Monkeys by crushing a can without touching it. You can tell by the looks on their faces, they were AMAZED!

Shadows and Light

During Groundhog week, we talked about shadows. Our experiment was all about shadows.
We broke up into 6 groups. There was a bag of objects and flashlights. We turned the lights out and then the fun began.

Juana's group loved the colored disks.

I think the colored the disks, were a hit with every group.

This shape stencil was cool too. This group discovered that if you moved the stencil closer to the flashlight, the bigger the shapes were. If you move the stencil away from the light, the shapes got smaller.

This group found if 2 lights were shining on the stencil from different angles,
there would be 2 shadows.

Don't be surprised if your Spunky Monkey wants to explore with a flashlight at home.

Spiders and Scarecrows

We read books all about Spiders. We knew the Author's Purpose for writing the book was to inform us of something new about spiders. During our science experiment, Mrs. Martin and Bradley acted out a spider eating a bug. First, the bug flies into the spider's web. Then the spider bites the bug with it's fangs. The poor "Bradley Bug" is dead.

The spider then wraps up the bug to enjoy later. The spider uses her legs and web to spin the bug around. Poor little"Bradley Bug." The spider has to wait for the bug's insides to become "juice."

Next we got our own bug (Kool Aid Fizz tablet) in our web. See his nice smiling face?

Next we added our venom (water) and watched it turn to bug juice.

Then we got to drink up our bug juice just like a real spider.

We really enjoyed "eating" our bugs.

YUM!

Slurp! Ahhh, mmm, mmm, good.

We also made Silly scarecrows. Thank you to Juana's family for providing some of the ingredients to make them.
