This is probably one of my favorite science experiments.
Of course I say that about most of the experiments.
First we look into 2 containers. Nothing but air, an invisible gas. We placed a burning candle into each container and nothing happened. The fire stayed lit. Next, I add some vinegar and baking soda to one of the containers. Waited for the bubbles to settle. We then predict what would happen to the fire when I placed into that container. It was awesome! The fire went out! So, then I poured the invisible gas into the other container. We tried it again. Guess what? It went out too. We talked all about the invisible air being carbon dioxide and fire needing oxygen to glow.
